I think I would like to cultivate a community here based on the Dinner Party Model of JavaRanch.
Imagine a bunch of friends, who invite other friends, to a big dinner party. You can joke, discuss, have fun, and meet new people. New and weird ideas are good. The more ideas, the better. I want an atmosphere where ideas can be shared without fear of personal attack.
The number one rule is:
Be nice.
This is my dinner party. I will edit your posts to remove insults toward people.
I will do my best to keep your content intact. If I don’t think I can remove the insult without severely altering your intent, I will just delete the comment.
Similarly, if someone says something that offends you, think twice before insulting back. Your comment could get DELETED.
Offending people is ok. No opinion can be 100% non-offensive. People are too sensitive about that. But insults lead to fighting and name-calling. Don’t insult people or risk censorship.
I don’t imagine I have that many readers. But in case I do get more, I’d like to start it off right.
So, please, I encourage you to:
- Link out. Links are good. References, funny stuff, whatever. No porn.
- Show personality. We want to get to know you.
- Register as a user (optional). You’ll get a signature. I might activate pictures later.
